the taste of skin - book
this is a collection of poems that poured through me during a time in my life where i was becoming. it was the first season i had reclaimed my skin as my own, and intimacy in these times was something i had never known before. each movement, each breath, each partner was a yes, a choice of my own. the first time poetry found me it was when i was dancing with darkness, heavy skin and bones and love to me was not intimate. but in the wake of my body being taken, i vowed to come back home to her and it is through these poems my path formed. this is not all of what love means to me, but for a woman who was taught that love would never become better, that explorations were limited to the body rather than the soul, these pages are a reclamation. and the gift each of the lovers i had as these poems formed has been the most beautiful magic to witness. we truly are love, and in connection that knowing shines like nothing else. love is beautiful, sex is magical, intimacy is gorgeous, and heartbreak is a gift. so if you are one of my lovers, thank you. and if you are a witness to the magic that can be born when you lay down the bias that has been taught about what and how love is meant to form then i hope these poems honour the love that has been. these poems are written about he’s, she’s, and they’s, all are welcome here and i do hope one of the poems may resonate for you in an experience of your own.
